EU : Citizens choices, Europes voices
The French think tank Notre Europe has designed a new project to overcome some of the difficulties of European integration
di Zesst
The French think-tank Notre Europe believes in deliberative polling as a means of creating a direct link between citizens and political leaders.
Involving citizens is essential for the future of EU democracy, but it is not easy. The 2005 referendum campaigns in France and in The Netherlands have clearly demonstrated the need for discussing European issues in a new way.
Tomorrow?s Europe, a project led by Notre Europe and many partner organizations, is designed to overcome the obstacles posed by EU microcosm debates. Its objective is to bring together citizens and leaders to share information and views on European matters.
Deliberative polling – which will be used in the coming conferences taking place this fall in Brussels ? is thought to be a major step to integrate information technologies in the framework of a rejuvenated EU democracy. The Yahoo portal is one of the sponsors. It will convey the chats and discussions to provide an effective line of communication to the various generations of web users.
Important leaders, like Giscard d?Estaing, Giuliano Amato and Jacques Delors, the Chair founder of Notre Europe are actively involved in Tomorrow?s Europe.
